Canada's WHKY team completed the round robin portion of the event with an unblemished 5-0 mark, thanks to a 4-1 win over Japan in the final preliminary game for the Canadians.
Alberta Pandas figured prominently on the scoresheet, accounting for all four goals. Jennifer Newton (Norglenwold, AB) had two for the Canadians including the eventual game winner, as the Canadians finished the round robin atop the standings at 5-0, outscoring their opponents 29-5 along the way.
Andrea Boras and Rayanne Reeve scored Canada's other goals with Hiromi Okazaki tallying the lone Japanese marker. Melinda Choy earned the win in the Canadian net, turning aside eight of the nine shots she faced.
Canada secures top spot at 5-0, with Finland and China safely through to the semifinals sporting 3-2 records. China beat the Finns in the preliminary round giving them last change in the semifinal. Slovakia and Japan finished the round robin with identical 2-3 marks - but the edge goes to the Slovaks by virtue of their 4-1 win in the round robin.
Canada and the Slovaks will meet in one Thursday semifinal with the Chinese and Finns playing in the other.
